Bruce M. Mowat
One of the original founders, Bruce’s goal was to create a firm that provides fully integrated audit, tax and business consulting services to small and medium sized business. With this objective in mind, the Firm continues to pay full tuition for its audit and tax professionals who wish to pursue a Masters in Taxation. As a result, our professional staff are able to serve the entire needs of the firm’s businesses clients and their owners.
Bruce began his career at Touche Ross and Co. (now Deloitte) in 1970. His philosophy is to encourage all professional staff to “be the Partner” on all engagements and take a personal interest in the success of the Firm’s clients.
Bruce has over 40 years of experience in tax compliance, planning and advice to real estate, manufacturing, distributors and many other business clients.
James D. Anderson (Principal)
Jim provides services in a wide variety of income and estate tax areas. He has significant experience in stock option planning, estate planning, and trust and estate administration. He is an exceptional client resource on issues related to Alternative Minimum Tax.
Jim served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967. Prior to joining MMA in 1986, he was a tax partner with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young LLP). During his 16-year tenure, he worked in the National Tax Department in Washington D.C. and in San Francisco, and eventually became Partner-In-Charge of Ernst & Whinney’s tax department in Oakland.
Lorna Padia Markus (Principal)
Lorna Padia Markus has more than 20 years of experience working with closely held businesses, nonprofit agencies, pension plans and individuals. Her focus is on acting as a business partner to her clients as they navigate complex tax laws and accounting rules.
Prior to Lorna’s public accounting experience, she also worked with the ALS & Neuromuscular Research Foundation (now a part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association) as their financial officer and has served on numerous nonprofit boards.
Robert R. Mackie
Rob began his career with a four-year stint at the Internal Revenue Service auditing individuals and small businesses. He then joined Touche Ross & Co., where he worked closely with closely held businesses to assist them with their financial reporting and tax issues. Thereafter, he became the controller at Williams-Sonoma, Inc., a position he held when the company went public in 1983.
Rob has been a partner at the firm for 25 years. He works primarily in the area of business income taxes, including tax planning and preparation and audit representation before the IRS and FTB. He also provides litigation support and oversees many of the firm’s numerous law firm clients.
Rob likes to work closely with company management. His approach is hands-on and he is especially adept at sorting out complex tax or financial situations and penetrating to the core issues that really matter.
